Natural Remedies Perfect for Heading Back to School

As we round the corner to another school year,we are aware of so many mixed emotions, schedule changes, and a myriad of unforeseen setbacks . These natural herbal and homeopathic remedies are suitable for kids of all ages (herbal is for age 1+), and are pediatrician approved!

The onslaught of GERMS!!

You know that the first week or two that your child goes back to school, the Herbs For Kidschances of them getting sick are practically inevitable.  Suggested by my daughters pediatrician, this herbal remedy helps to boost your child’s immune system naturally, at the first sign of illness.  I generally give my girls the remedy a couple of days before schools starts, and through the first week.

After that, I use it when I see signs that they’re getting sick.  First bout of sniffles, runny nose, sneezing, you know the drill.  It’s good for adults too, so you can battle the germs that come back home with your kids every day as well.  The dosage is on the bottle, by age. Echinacea and Astragalus are known immune system supporters and this combination has rarely failed to fend off or decrease most illnesses we encounter. You can find this at your local health food store, or HERE

Emotional stress, anxiety, fear, transitioning of schedules, oh my!

Boiron ChamomillaThe excitement and anxiety of school starting, along with schedule changes, new environments, fear of the unknown, and every emotion in between is something all kids and most adults are going to encounter.  These two remedies are homeopathic. Meaning they are an extract of different flower and plants. There are no side effects to using homeopathy, and my pediatrician has helped me to decide on many remedies for my girls, since they were born.  Chamomilla is an extraction from chamomile and is used for it’s calming effect.  I’ve even used this for teething when my daughter has gotten overly cranky or tired and just needs something to take the edge off, so she can relax and get some much needed rest. It is recommended In 6x and 30c dilutions, and can be found at most health food stores, or HERE

SunshineDistressThe Nature’s Sunshine distress remedy and Bach flower remedies are very similar.  I chose the Nature’s Sunshine product because it is glycerin based, as opposed to alcohol.  They are a mix of several different plant extractions, to help alleviate a number of emotional and physical ailments.  Recently, Our family had several long drives (10-13 hours each), and I found that this remedy was invaluable for all 4 of us in taking the edge and irritability off of sitting in a car all day.  More health food stores will carry the Bach remedies, but Amazon has you covered for finding Nature’s Sunshine Distress Remedy

These are just three of my favorite, child safe remedies right now. This time of year often begs for just a little help to get through all the changes we are about to experience.  I encourage you to look further into natural remedies for your family, that focus on healing your body and strengthening it, as opposed to the band aid approach that many traditional medicines provide.
